About The Common

The Common is Squamish’s coworking space and community hub, located in the heart of town. We’re more than a place to work. We’re a community of remote workers, freelancers, founders, and locals who show up not just for a desk, but for a sense of belonging, connection, and the energy that comes from being around other people building things. We’ve been part of Squamish since 2017, and we’re growing.

The role

We’re looking for a Community Host to be the heartbeat of the space during the morning hours. This is a front-of-house role with real impact: you set the tone for the day, make people feel genuinely welcomed, and keep the space running smoothly. You’ll work closely with the operations partner, who leads the strategic and growth side of the business. You’re part of the team. Your job is to bring that vision to life in the space every day.

This role suits someone who is passionate about community and wants meaningful work that makes a real difference to people’s days. If you have your own projects or work on the side, even better. The space is yours to use and the environment will fuel it.

Is this you?

You’re a passionate, people-oriented person who loves meeting new faces, building real relationships, and fostering genuine connections. You’re ambitious and business-minded, and you’ll do whatever it takes to make the space feel welcoming, because that’s what you care about. You encourage creativity, spark ideas, and make people feel like they belong here. You’re a self-starter who thrives on maintaining a routine and takes pride in the environment around you.

What you’ll do
  • +Open and maintain the space so it’s always clean, organized, and ready for the day
  • +Greet members and visitors warmly, help new members get settled and onboarded
  • +Handle light admin: emails, membership enquiries, membership management
  • +Support weekly social events and community initiatives
  • +Encourage a sense of community, creativity, and connection among members
  • +Spot what needs doing and do it, without being asked

What success looks like

A great Community Host will know every member by name, the space will run itself in the mornings, and members will feel the difference the moment they walk in.

Who you are
  • +Warm and genuinely people-oriented. You remember names. You notice when someone’s new.
  • +Proactive and results-driven. You take initiative and take pride in your environment.
  • +Someone who does what needs to be done to make a space feel welcoming, without being asked.
  • +Organized and reliable. Morning availability Mon-Fri is a must.
  • +A clear communicator, in person and over email. Spelling and grammar matter to you.
  • +Experienced in customer service, hospitality, or community-facing work.
  • +Enthusiastic about people, ideas, and community. You bring energy into a room.
  • +Must be eligible to work in Canada.

What you get
  • +$25/hour, ~15-20 hours/week to start, with the potential to grow as the business grows
  • +Full access to The Common as your own workspace. If you have your own projects, this is your space too.
  • +Access to all events, workshops, and community programming
  • +A close working relationship with the operations partner and a real seat at the table as part of a small, ambitious team
  • +Exposure to AI tools and modern ways of running a small business. If that’s something that interests you, there’s a real opportunity to learn here.
  • +Access to one of Squamish’s most interesting professional networks. The people who work here are builders, creatives, and entrepreneurs. That network is yours too.
